AI and Job Hunting
The job market, how you apply/look for jobs, and how people recruit/hire is always evolving. The newest trend that is causing all the buzz is AI. We all know that AI is finding ways to slip into our everyday lives and job applications are no exception.
There are many programs that can be used as part of your job application process. You can have AI write your resume, generate headshots, autofill job applications, mass apply to jobs, and so much more.
As an agency that spends their days looking at job applications, resumes, and LinkedIn profiles, PCG has had conversations about how AI can be a benefit to job seekers (if it is used properly). If you have decided that you want to use AI platforms to assist in your job search and application process, we suggest that you:
- Make sure that your voice still comes across. Just because a robot wrote it, does not mean it should sound like it!
- Double check that the information is correct and formatted properly.
- Ensure that if you are using AI to write a cover letter or your resume, it has prioritized the information that is relevant to the job that you are applying to.
- Read everything over to see if there is anything giving away that you used AI.
At PCG, we believe in the human touch, so we see an opportunity for candidates to use AI to generate that connection. Our clients view thank you notes as confirmation that you are interested in the role that you interviewed for, so we encourage all of our candidates to send them. This adds a human touch to your job search and informs the candidate that you want to move forward in the process. We see that AI can assist here by saving time and writing something that is different than the general templates that you will find on a web search. Of course, ensure that you are including details that were discussed in the interview and that it sounds like you!
The PCG team sees a benefit in candidates using AI throughout the job process, but to maintain the human aspect of recruiting, we do not use AI to scan resumes or make any hiring decisions. We want to understand who you are, not just what a piece of paper says.
