Pyramid Consulting Group is excited by the freelance projects we work on for our client portfolio. We get the opportunity to match talent to awesome projects and have helped grow the resumes of our talent pool with the exposure received at these assignments. Though the freelance talent we work with do not sit in our office, we work closely with them, form relationships and continually place them on assignments again and again. One such talent is Jorgina “J” Marzan, a seasoned veteran of freelance projects and our resident “go-to” MVP!
Read on to learn more about J’s experience with Pyramid, some advice for getting into freelance projects to grow your career!
PCG: Hi, J! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us and allowing us to feature you in our new blog series featuring freelance employees! Can you tell us how you started working with Pyramid?
J: A recruiter at PCG found me on Indeed when I had just gotten laid off from working a hotel job I had for 4 years. I was eager to connect and had a great experience with the recruiter, they really listened to what I was looking for and worked hard to match me with opportunities. I started working my first project with Pyramid doing the Up Close & Personal with Michelangelo Sistine Chapel Art Exhibition at the end of July 2017.
PCG: What part of freelancing do you love?
J: I’m often in operational positions that allow me a lot of control and responsibility, which I like because they are always fresh and never boring. I also like that there are periods between assignments and I can pursue my career of DJing with flexibility. I also do other side work, like private catering. It gives me the opportunity to balance out a lot of what I want to do and what I’m capable of doing.
PCG: What kind of operational roles have you been doing for us?
J: A lot of times I’m in managerial roles where I’m in the back of house doing retail pop ups and handling inventory, Human Resources tasks including scheduling, budget costs, handling hours for Brand Ambassadors and Sales Associates and other things - not just with Pyramid, but also in partnership directly with the client, to make sure that needs are met and making any adjustments in a timely and affordable manner. A lot of the projects I have to do are hands on. For example, I was doing administrative work for a client during fashion week last year, so I had to be hands on with the casting agency and get all of the requirements from the models’ agencies so they were able to walk the runway shows. I look at each project as a different learning opportunity. There are some things I didn’t know when I started doing these pop ups that I now have on my resume!
PCG: Do you have any advice for other people looking to get into a freelance career?
J: This is a commitment. If you want to get into this, you have to be 110% with this commitment, as each client has an objective for the project. This is short term work, but has long lasting rewards.
PCG: Have you traveled for other roles?
J: When the client needs it, I travel. The last leg of my current project was in SoHo. We worked in Baltimore and Chicago executing inventory, opening an experiential pop up in Chicago, and then ending with a larger project in SoHo with several high profile events.
PCG: What is your experience working with PCG? Any feedback for other freelancers?
J: Pyramid reaches out to me a lot for work - it reflects on my work ethic and performance, and their commitment to me. A lot of times, clients of PCG ask directly for me from the work Pyramid has introduced me to. I’m very privileged in that sense.
J has been freelancing for PCG for over 2 years. If you’re interested in learning more about freelance work, contact us today or check out our Instagram @pyramid.cg to learn about our open opportunities!
