It may be hard to stay positive while job searching – especially in the midst of a global pandemic. Whether you’re a recent graduate or in search of your next great opportunity, staying positive may be the keep to helping you keep your cool during a pandemic-ridden job search. Here are a few tips – straight from PCG recruiters – on how to maintain a positive outlook while job searching during COVID-19.
Maintain a positive outlook:
First and foremost, maintaining a positive outlook during a global pandemic goes far beyond searching for a new job. Maintaining a positive outlook can help boost personal morale and keep you motivated to continue your job search.
“Stay positive!” said Laura Menezes, Senior Account Director at PCG. “You are not alone in the ups and downs of a job search. These are unprecedented times, and many other people are in the same boat.”
Keep in touch:
Tapping into your personal network of friends, family, or previous colleagues could be a great way to link up with a new job. You never know – your uncle’s friend from high school may be hiring for a job that checks off all of your personal boxes. It never hurts to ask!
“It’s important to rely on each other and there should be no shame in asking for support during this time,” Said Krista Esposito, Manager of Retail Recruitment for Pyramid. “As recruiters, referrals are a huge part of our business and have become some of our best candidates!”
Reach out:
As recruiters, we always advocate for reaching out to extend your resources. Utilizing the tools and resources of a staffing or recruiting agency is a great way to get your resume out there and, sometimes, to the top of the shortlist.
“It’s a great time to partner with a recruiter and discuss your career and where you see yourself growing,” said PCG Executive Vice President, Erika Mendez. “Use this time to make human connections versus submitting your resume blindly and not knowing where the company is in their process.”
Don’t be afraid of temp or freelance:
If you’re coming from previous experience in a full-time permanent capacity, don’t be afraid to explore temporary or freelance positions. Depending on the length of assignment, some temporary roles can offer placement and work for over a year and can really boost up your resume with great companies and experience!
Don’t give up:
It may be easier said than done, but don’t give up! Utilize your resources and keep pushing – you’ll be so thankful you did when you land an amazing job!
