Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? Established in 1992, Stress Awareness Month brings attention to the dangers of stress and how to manage it. The Pyramid Consulting Group team is practicing stress management every day this month, so we wanted to share our initiatives with you! Here are some little known facts about stress management that you can adapt into your daily routine.
The foods you eat can affect your stress levels. 1 Highly caffeinated substances including coffee, soda or energy drinks can elevate your stress levels. Refined sugars found in sweet treats or processed carbs found in bread, potato chips or pasta can spike blood sugar levels, which will eventually lead to the “crashing” feeling midday. Stay on alert and satisfy your hunger with plant-based foods, herbal tea and Vitamin C. Stress often affects your diet and will change your overall health in the long term.
Physical activity can reduce stress levels. 2 If you’re feeling stressed, get your steps in around the office or take a walk to pick up your lunch. A 10 minute walk per day gives you the opportunity to step away from your desk and clear your head of any approaching deadlines, projects or presentations you are facing while sitting in the office. Working out a few times a week can influence your stress levels, too! Take some time in your day to squeeze in a workout, whether it’s running, yoga, dancing or powerlifting. You’ll feel better when you do!
Putting your thoughts on paper can relieve stress. 3 Being overwhelmed is a regular part of life, but it doesn’t have to be all of the time. Try journaling – or writing down your frustrations – to clear your mind and relieve any negative thoughts you may have. Write down daily or weekly mantras and practice saying them to yourself in times of high stress. Add in some jokes to laugh at when you need a break from any pressures you may feel.
While these aren’t the only ways to relieve stress, they are our recommendations for easy stress management. Stress can affect your overall mood and health, so you’ll want to be in best practice for maintaining a level head, even in the highest of stressful situations.
