We will all inevitably feel stressed at work at one point or another. Stress is a seemingly normal part of work life, no matter how effectively we manage it. We’ve compiled a list of six different ways you can eliminate stress in your day to day work lives.
Deep breaths
Sometimes we just need a breather. Take a moment to close your eyes and inhale/exhale for a minute or two. The key here is to silence all the thoughts bouncing around in your head for a short while. Count to ten and backward while doing so to allow you to focus solely on your breathing.
Take a short break
Often times physical activity helps us relax. Use a short 5-minute break to get up and walk around the office. Go pick up your lunch instead of delivery. Pop outside for a bit if the weather is nice. Your eyes will thank you for getting a break from the constant computer screen glare and you’ll come back more focused and ready to take on the day.
Organize & prioritize
You might not even realize that you just need a little bit of organization to manage your stress. Create a to-do list with a timeline and rank your tasks with priority. You might just see your productivity boost instantly as you see all of your work planned out in front of you.
Use a personal day
Though we don’t always recommend calling out when work gets tough, we will say that personal days can prove to be beneficial. Taking the day allows you to recuperate and relax. Talk with your HR department or your supervisor about your personal day guidelines and when taking off is convenient with your schedule.
Take care of yourself at home
One of the most valuable stress eliminators is more sleep. If your constant worrying about a project at work is keeping you up until all hours of the night, it might be time to reconsider your sleeping schedule. Adults typically need at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Try going to bed earlier!
Ask for help
Sometimes we over schedule or overwork ourselves. We sometimes overestimate how much we can get done within a designated time frame. In scenarios like this, it’s okay to ask for help. Asking a co-worker for their time might be an easy fix for your stress. You might even get more accomplished with additional hands. Be sure to let your colleagues know of your appreciation of their help.
