In today’s society, it’s pretty common for the average person to have more than one job. According to USA Today , at least 7.8 million people have multiple jobs as of September 2016. The article goes on to explain that this is about 5.2% of people in the workforce, which might not seem like a lot. However, the number increased by 300,000 in just one month. If the increase remained steady, it’s possible that an additional 2.4 million people are now working multiple jobs. That would mean over 10 million people are juggling several sources of income. Because of this workforce trend, employers and employees alike are shifting the way they balance jobs. Temporary positions are on the rise. (Check out some of our open positions here !) Regardless, if you’re someone who works multiple jobs, you might find difficulty in balancing all your responsibilities.
The Secret?
Time management is your best friend and the most trusted key to managing all of your jobs. While time management is essential to any working professional, it’s especially important for someone with more than one gig. You’ll thank yourself for allocating time to work and time to rest. If you’re a digital guru, download the latest app or fill your calendar with your to-do lists. If you’re a pen and paper kind of person, invest in a planner or notebook to begin a bullet journal. Now, you can start managing your time!
Time management helps you coordinate your schedule for each job
This aspect of time management is important to simply working at all. Your job schedule will essentially dictate your week. Perhaps you work weekends at your local gym, but during the week you’re a brand ambassador at a boutique for your dream luxury fashion brand. You’ll need to stay on top of your time management for flexibility’s sake. If your fashion job absolutely needs you to work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, you’ll need to communicate the information with your supervisor at the gym. This way, you won’t get caught in a scheduling conflict. Both you and your employers will be better off that way.
Time management helps you find time for yourself
Some of us might work more than 40 hours a week or more than five days a week. In this day and age, working professionals can easily get absorbed into the 24/7 working lifestyle. Time management will be your savior. Set some time out each week to delve into your favorite hobby. Likewise, you should also know when it’s appropriate to “check out” for the night and go to sleep. It can be pretty tempting to stay on your phone into all hours of the night, especially with more than one demanding job. However, your employers will thank you for getting some rest and coming into work refreshed and ready to take on a new day!
