Looks like this time, unfortunately, you didn’t land the job. While this might have resulted from a multitude of different reasons- maybe the job was put on hold or the company hired internally- you should start looking forward. Where do you begin? Here are some of the best ways you can make the most out of the job rejection.
Don’t overthink things
First and foremost, don’t be hard on yourself. The last thing you want is for your confidence to take a dip before you step back out into the job search world. While a rejection always feels like a bummer, you can learn from it. Take the experience of a great opportunity to practice interview skills, if nothing else.
Reflect on your improvement
Staying humble in the job search world is tricky- especially when we’re always trying to convince employers how awesome we are! Therefore, thinking about how you can improve might not always come quickly. When you’re ready, sit and reflect on how the process could be revamped. Perhaps you forgot to send a thank you note or maybe your cover letter had a few grammatical errors. These are small mistakes you can change instantly! Likewise, it’s never a bad idea to follow up and ask for suggestions on how you can improve.
Put the culture into question
The company culture, that is. Sometimes companies and candidates aren’t the right fit for each other. This doesn’t mean that you’re a bad candidate! Simply, the company might have specific needs and wanted to hire someone with particular skills. It goes without saying that not every single job will be right for every single candidate. Let this drive you to look for companies with a stellar dynamic!
Look for new opportunities
Last but certainly not least, you should begin looking for new opportunities. Who knows, you might have a great opportunity just around the corner. Moreover, consider using a recruiter. Each of the recruiters here at Pyramid is dedicated to making great job/candidate matches. Don’t forget to ask your recruiter for feedback after your interview – it’ll come in handy for the next time you’re up for an exciting new opportunity!
