Starting and maintaining a blog can be beneficial, not only for personal branding but for individualized professional growth as well. Nearly 8 years ago, we launched our PCG blog and have continuously been learning more about the recruitment industry since! Here are just a few reasons why writing a blog can be beneficial:
Brand Yourself
For many bloggers, writing columns and producing content on a regular basis allows for personal expression. Whether it’s talking about a new food experience, a favorite movie, or a recent vacation to an exotic destination, blogging can give you the freedom to discuss what you love in a personal or professional way.
“A blog is a great way to show off some personality online,” said Haley Tanella, a member of our marketing department. “It gives you a way to show off a bit of your fun side in a creative outlet. You can show off your interest in specific things, places, or stories in a unique forum, which I think is pretty cool!”
Or Learn More About Your Industry
While creating a blog can be a personal endeavor, producing content on your specific industry or field of study can help you can insight on new and emerging trends, standards, and news. With blogging comes conductive research which can assist in various jobs in a variety of industries.
Become A Stronger Writer
When looking to expand your skill set, apply for a new job, or just work on personal growth, strong written communication skills are a key part of professional branding. Writing a blog gives you the opportunity to expand your writing skills and gain even more experience in writing standards.
“I think that writing my own blog has really helped me boost my writing and gain important skills and insight into different writing techniques,” said Haley. “I’m glad that I have the more ‘relaxed’ writing experience to credit on my resume experiences – I think it shows diversity in skill set and is also key for someone like me who is currently working in marketing.”
Learn A New (Highly-Coveted) Skill
While blogging is not only a great way to expand your creative skill set, but also gives you the opportunity to take on a new (and fairly coveted among employers) skill. Using internet software systems has become an important skill, not only in blogging but in job seeking as well.
Website production sites, such as Wix, Weebly, and Squarespace make it relatively easy to conceptualize basic website programming and these such tools make it very easy to create beautiful, easy-to-use blog sites!
