Trust needs to be developed between recruiters and their candidates to produce a successful outcome. We sat down with Patrick Musacchia, our National Talent Manager, to talk about how trust can effectively be incorporated into these relationships.
Selecting the Agency
Candidates should really do their research when selecting a recruiting agency to work with. Patrick explains that, although going in blind might be easier, candidates need to be familiar with the staffing agency’s line of work. He adds that building trust starts at the very first interaction between candidate and recruiter.
A simple internet search will help you start off. Check the agency’s website, LinkedIn pages and employee profiles for even more information. Doing your homework will help you figure out the focus of the agency. If you know what you’re getting into, there should be no surprises. For example, if you’re looking for fashion jobs, an agency like Pyramid is great because fashion is one of our largest divisions. Make sure your goals line up with the experience and focus of any recruiting agency you reach out to. It’ll only save you (and the recruiters) time. Once you’ve selected the right agency, trust that they will use their expertise to the best of their ability.
The Process
The next step in getting to know your recruiter should be getting to know their process. Patrick elaborates on the topic by breaking things down in terms of the business relationship. What will your recruiter/candidate relationship look like at the beginning? Moreover, how will your relationship grow through getting you that job? When it’s time for your interview, remember the trust goes both ways. You’re representing the recruiting agency as much as they are representing you.
You should also be asking how your relationship will continue after placement if your recruiter doesn’t make this clear upfront. By laying out the process in simplified terms, you and your recruiter will likely stay on the same page throughout your interactions. All expectations and promises will be outlined at the start of the relationship, thus allowing the trust to form through open communication.
