There’s no getting around it – working from home has become a new norm, especially in recent weeks. While we may be facing difficult times at the current moment, staying positive and fully connected to help businesses grow amongst any uncertainty. Here are a few tips to help keep your team connected while working remotely:
Working remotely presents its number of challenges – one of those being face-to-face interactions and daily touch bases. One way to keep connected with your teams is to hold weekly touch bases via video conference tools, such as Zoom or Amazon Chime. Take some time out of your day to reconnect with face-to-face connectivity and collaborate in ways you may not be able to on a typical work from home day.
If you’re looking to touch base quickly or send simple messages, an internal chat feature may be a great solution for your team! Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Blink all offer internal chat solutions to send quick messages, other than hopping on the phone or email. Send a quick hello, a funny gif or meme, or even share files – without the delay of back-and-forth over email for a quick communication solution.
Make file-sharing easy! Systems like Google Docs and Microsoft OneDrive can allow you to share documents within your organization – ensuring that everyone is up-to-date with any changes to presentations, documentations, or files. These types of cloud-based file organization can also allow your team to edit documents within the system, once again eliminating the need for continuous back-and-forth file sharing. This will also ensure that everyone is aware of any changes in real time!
A lot of companies are different, but one thing that all can agree is that employees must be kept aware of existing or changing policies, company news, and other announcements (especially in times such as these!) At PCG, we use Microsoft Yammer – an enterprise social media tool – to keep our employees up-to-date on any changes in policy, industry news, and use it as a place to keep any human resources documents for easy access.
A fun way to keep your employees engaged while working from home is to set up a weekly meeting! Take some time to set aside your work for a few minutes to reconnect with everyone on your team! Set up an internal video conference to enjoy each other’s company over lunch, while talking about your latest Netflix binges, or discuss any new recipes you may be testing in your kitchen – virtually. This will help to keep your internal communication strong while adding a bit of brightness to everyone’s day.
