A first impression can make or break your chances at getting a job, which is why it’s important to make it a great one! We’ve compiled the top pointers for presenting your best self at every interview.
Body Language
It’s totally normal to feel nervous before an interview. The downside to a case of the nerves is that it usually presents itself in your body language. Not only will the interviewer be able to sense it, but anxiousness can affect your ability to shine. Thankfully, you can fake it ‘til you make it with the right body language. Our recruiters suggest sitting still, keeping your hands open and unmoving and having an open stance will leave a more positive impression.
Conversation
The pressure of interviewing can make you forget that an interview is a two-sided conversation that should allow your personality to shine through. While a hiring manager does want to hear about your work experience and what you bring to the table, they are also trying to determine if you are a culture fit for the company. Our recruiters say it’s important to listen and engage versus talking at the person who is interviewing you.
Attire
What you wear to a job interview plays a huge part in the decision-making process. Wearing jeans to a meeting with a company that has a formal dress code is a no-go. You don’t want to wear a three-piece suit to an interview with a start -up company, either. Women should keep makeup light and neutral, avoiding bright or dark shades. The best way to avoid any fashion faux-pas is to do plenty of research beforehand to get a feel for the culture of the company, their dress code and who you will potentially be working for.
Use these tips to present your best self at every job interview you have forthcoming. For more ideas or suggestions about how to leave a great first impression, contact Pyramid Consulting Group!
