With advancing technology, companies have been finding it easier to expand their teams on a remote basis (including us here at PCG!). While working from home may present ups and downs throughout the work day, there are ways to make the most out of your remote work accommodations if your company allows you to do so. We spoke with one of our Luxury Recruiters who works remotely in Mexico City, Courtney, to gain a little more insight on how she makes the most of her remote work experience.
Communicate!
Strong communication among a team is critically important for the success of any type of business. It is critically important to stay up-to-date with the status of office happenings, but while it may be easier to stay in contact with co-workers while in the office, maintaining strong communication throughout the workday while working remotely is also critically important. Whether it’s sending a quick email to a co-worker or making a phone call to review the status of a project with your direct supervisor, maintaining strong communication helps you to stay in the loop with critical company happenings.
“Communication throughout the day is THE most important,” said Courtney, “I’m constantly emailing, texting or on the phone with my colleagues in the office. Being in touch constantly with my colleagues also helps me feel like a part of the team.”
Create a To-Do List
One way to make the most out of your day-to-day remote work day is to create a to-do list for yourself filled with daily tasks. When we asked Courtney about one way she keeps herself on task while working from home, keeping a physical to-do list in front her during her day helps to accomplish tasks throughout the day.
“I’m old school and don’t use any special apps, just my notebook, and pen and I make sure I have everything crossed off by the end of the day.”
Whether you keep your checklist in a notebook, on a phone or tablet, or on a desktop computer, creating a to-do list can certainly increase remote productivity.
Set (Realistic) Goals
Another way to boost productivity while working remotely is to set goals for yourself. Create goals, whether metric-based or project-based can help you make the most of your workday.
“Having goals that I have to reach pushes me to stay on task on a daily basis and make sure I’m being just as productive as the team in the office,” Courtney told us.
And while working remotely may present its challenges, it is important to remember that there are positives to working with this type of flexible schedule as well!
“I feel empowered and trusted by our leadership team to work away from the office and know that I’m doing my best to contribute to the success of the company, said Courtney. “Plus, I have the fun perk of getting to spend all day with my shih-tzu, Wembly!”
