A long and tedious job search can certainly be cause for a lack of motivation in making a career change. However, taking the right approach to a job search may help you maintain the motivation you need to land your dream job! Take a look at some of our favorite techniques for staying motivated during a job search:
Stay Organized
One of the best ways to stay motivated is to maintain excellent organization. Separate job-related emails and messages in your inbox into separate job search folders, keep your resume up-to-date and saved directly to your computer’s desktop to be easily attached to applications, and maintain an accurate record of all of your job applications. Better organization will help you feel prepared during your job search and will help you stay motivated to find that perfect position!
Connect with a Recruiter
Recruiters are a great tool to utilize during your job search. Whether it’s understanding and processing your career goals and expectations, commentating and displaying your talents to clients, and pinpointing opportunities that meet your skill set, recruiters take a lot of the traditional job search work off of your shoulders. With a recruiter maintaining communication with you through your job search, staying motivated is as easy as making a phone call or sending an email.
Network!
Who you know can benefit you greatly in your job search. Work on expanding your personal network and seeking advice (or even job referrals) from those closet to you. Connect with your contacts to see if they’d be interested in conducting informational interviews with you to better understand what types of opportunities are available and the skills and experience that hiring managers in your field of interest are searching for. Also, ensure that you are following up with any referrals and staying up-to-date with any and all new opportunities that may become available.
Trust the Process
Finding a new job may take time – and that’s okay! While it may be frustrating to go through the tedious process of job searching, finding the perfect job will be worth it!
“As recruiters, we’re always on the lookout for jobs and opportunities that fit your skills and personal goals,” said one of our Associate Recruiters, Ashley Delgado. “It may take time for that right opportunity to appear, but it will definitely be worth it!”
