You’ve heard it before: the average recruiter spends six seconds scanning your resume, which means lots of resumes are eliminated quickly. Here are some tips to have your resume in tip top shape, so you can start the new year with confidence!
Use the right keywords
You can make your resume stand out instantly by using the right words. Take a look at the descriptions of jobs that you want to apply for. What kinds of words to do they use? Find a way to incorporate them into your resume. It might also be helpful to research terms that are specific to your industry, and use some of those as a bonus factor.
One of our recruiters on the eCommerce team, Yara, shares what she notices first when reviewing resumes, “You will want to include important terms that are linked to your specific industry. Words such as engagement, tracking, strategic and measure should be on there in some shape or form. It might sound like a lot, but it really only does take a few seconds for recruiters to scan a resume and catch those words.”
Make sure there is enough white space
It can be overwhelming for a recruiter to look at a resume with too much information on it. Likewise, it will make it harder to distinguish certain points on your resume that are important. To ensure your resume flows and is readable, you will want to make sure you leave enough white space between separate points.
Incorporate Social Media Links
Having links to your social media on your resume is a great way to personalize it! LinkedIn should be in the header, but should only be included if it is up to date and enhances your resume. Other social media links can be added as long as they are relevant to your brand. Including these is a great way to give the recruiter a further look into who are you are, which will set you apart from other candidates.
A resume is a representation of who are you are, and it is the first step to getting closer to your dream job. Once it is perfected, contact Pyramid Consulting Group to find your next position!
