In honor of Women’s History Month, Pyramid Consulting Group is celebrating women in the workplace! As a company founded by a female CEO, PCG is always excited to learn about and collaborate with female-founded companies that share some of the same values that we do.
This month we’re sitting down with a few women from women-run businesses all across the country to learn about their individual stories and what it means to be women in the workplace.
This week we are featuring the amazing work of The Sill! Based in the heart of NYC, The Sill is dedicated to their motto which is “plants make people happy,” and we agree! From their adorably delicate succulents to their fun and funky hanging air plants, The Sill delivers high-quality products to their customers and has been since founder, Eliza Blank, launched the company officially in 2012.
We sat down with Erin Marino, Director of Marketing, to gain a bit of insight as to why she loves working for The Sill and how she thinks women-run business are changing the face of our global economy!
Erin joined The Sill’s team as an intern and the first ever employee in 2012 since then she has grown to one of the company’s highest-ranking employees as the Director of Marketing. Watching the company grow has been one of Erin’s favorite things about working for The Sill.
“I’ve seen the company grow from the ground up,” said Marino, “It has been an incredible experience.”
Erin also credits The Sill’s founder and a strong team of motivated individuals for the ever-growing success of the business as well as an inspiration for all employees.
“We have an incredible founder and mentor to look up to. I think that can really impact and inspire a team. I feel inspired every morning to get to my office. To be surrounded by people that feel passionate about their job and the company it’s within is unbelievably motivating.”
Marino also mentions that working for a female-founded company has helped her feel more ‘at home’ while in the office, mentioning that she feels that the company is an extension of her own family.
And as for the growth of women-owned companies in the US and around the world? Erin believes that companies, such as The Sill, are working to improve the global economy one step at a time, and she is proud of the work that The Sill has contributed thus far.
“3% of women-owned business in the US surpass the $1 million mark and I am proud to work for one that has.
'For Erin, the growth and stigma of women in the workplace are only growing and she hopes to someday be a role model for young women looking to make a change in business globally.
